White smoke rises from moxa burning atop needles on the back of a 16-year-old dog during a treatment at Yamaguchi Pet Clinic in the suburbs of Tokyo May 18. The eldery client, originally unable to walk, is now recovering and walking well in the treatment, its owner said. Japanese veterinary surgeon Masaru Yamaguchi treats animal clients with acupuncture in addition to moxibustion. Moxibustion is an ancient Asian practice of burning various herbs on or near the skin.
